Dyson V15 Detect Review: Still the Stick Vacuum to Beat in 2026?

Dyson V15 Detect
The most complete cordless stick you can buy. Expensive, but it replaces a plug-in vacuum for most homes.
Price range: $$$$
Check Latest Price on AmazonThe Dyson V15 Detect has been at the top of the cordless market for several years now, and after a month of daily use across hardwood, tile, and medium-pile carpet, it’s easy to see why it still anchors our top picks table. If you want the short version: it’s the best all-round stick vacuum we’ve tested, and the main argument against it is the price.
Design and Weight
At around 3 kg (6.8 lb), the V15 is not the lightest stick in this roundup — the Levoit LVAC-200 undercuts it by a wide margin — but the balance is excellent. Most of the mass sits in your hand around the motor, so steering the head under furniture feels lighter than the spec sheet suggests.
The trigger-style power control divides opinion. You squeeze to run, release to stop. It saves battery in stop-start cleaning, but if you prefer a latch-on button, look at the Shark or Samsung alternatives in our comparison of the best stick vacuums.
Suction Performance
This is where the V15 separates itself. On hard floors, the soft-roller Fluffy Optic head picks up everything from flour-fine dust to cereal in a single pass. The green laser genuinely changes how you clean: dust you would have walked past lights up like a runway, which is equal parts satisfying and horrifying.
On carpet, the Motorbar head digs out embedded hair and grit that our reference plug-in upright left behind. The LCD particle counter is more than a party trick — watching the numbers fall to near-zero tells you when a high-traffic area is actually done.
Battery Life
Dyson quotes up to 60 minutes. In our testing, Eco mode on hard floors got close to that, Auto mode landed around 35–40 minutes of real cleaning, and Boost is a sub-10-minute sprint for emergencies. For a typical three-bedroom home, one charge covers a full clean with margin. If runtime is your main worry, read our guide to stick vacuum battery life.
Maintenance
The bin ejects forward without touching the mess, the filter rinses under a tap, and the hair screw tool genuinely defeats long hair and pet fur instead of collecting it around a brush bar. Budget ten minutes a month for filter washing — our maintenance guide covers the routine.
Verdict
If the budget stretches, buy it. The V15 Detect is the rare premium product that delivers on every headline feature. Households on a tighter budget get 80% of the experience from the Dyson V8 or Shark Stratos for far less money.
