Shark’s pitch with the Stratos is simple: most of the Dyson experience for a lot less money. After running it head-to-head with the Dyson V15 Detect for three weeks, that pitch mostly holds up — and in two areas, the Shark is actually the better tool.

Design and Build

The Stratos feels dense and well-assembled. At roughly 4 kg it’s the heaviest stick here, and you notice it on stairs and above-floor cleaning. On open floors the weight disappears into the excellent twin-roller head, which pulls itself forward slightly like a powered mower.

The latch-on power button (no trigger to hold) and a flexible MultiFLEX wand that bends to reach under sofas are both quality-of-life wins over the Dyson.

Suction and the DuoClean Head

The DuoClean head pairs a soft front roller with a bristled rear brush, so it grabs large debris and fine dust in one pass without the “snowplow” effect cheaper heads suffer from. Moving from tile to rug requires no mode change — it just keeps cleaning.

Where the Stratos genuinely beats everything else we’ve tested is hair. The self-cleaning brush roll plus Shark’s anti-wrap comb meant zero hair scissoring sessions in three weeks of cleaning up after a long-haired dog. If pet hair is your daily reality, this is the one to get — and our pet-focused buying advice goes deeper on what matters.

Odor Neutralizer

It sounds like marketing. It isn’t, quite. A replaceable scent cartridge sits in the airflow path and takes the dusty-dog smell out of the exhaust. You will either love this or be indifferent; nobody in our house wanted it removed.

Battery Life

Around 50 minutes in Eco on hard floors, and roughly 25–30 minutes in the auto-sensing iQ mode with the brush roll working. That’s enough for most homes, but unlike the Samsung Bespoke Jet AI, the battery isn’t designed for quick hot-swapping, so bigger houses should plan to clean in one session per charge.

Verdict

The Stratos earns its 4.6: it cleans within a whisker of vacuums costing substantially more, and for pet households the anti-hair-wrap system and odor cartridge make it arguably the smarter buy. Check the current price below — it’s frequently discounted, and at sale prices it’s the best deal in the category.

What We Liked

  • Suction close to premium rivals at a mid-range price
  • DuoClean twin-roller head transitions between floor types without fuss
  • Odor neutralizer cartridge actually helps in pet homes
  • Self-cleaning brush roll handles long hair well

What Could Be Better

  • Heavier in hand than the spec suggests
  • Battery is fixed-position — awkward to swap mid-clean
  • App features are forgettable
