Miele’s reputation is built on appliances that outlast their warranty by a decade, and the Triflex HX2 is the brand’s answer to the cordless stick. It approaches the format differently from everyone else: instead of a fixed shape, the motor-and-bin unit clips into different positions, so the vacuum reconfigures for the job. It’s the best-built stick we’ve handled — with the caveat that build quality comes at a weight and price premium.

The Modular Design

This is the Triflex’s defining trick. The main unit can sit at the bottom, just above the floor head, which lowers the centre of gravity and makes floor cleaning feel light and stable. Or it clips to the top, by the handle, which extends reach for ceilings and high corners. Detach the wand entirely and it becomes a handheld for the car or stairs. It’s not a gimmick — moving the weight where you need it genuinely helps, and it’s something no Dyson or Shark can do.

Design and Weight

Everything about the HX2 feels engineered: the clips are tight, the materials are dense, the floor head glides. The flip side is weight — in handheld mode especially it’s heavier than rivals, and if low weight is your top priority the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a better fit. Controls are button-based with a clean interface.

Suction Performance

Suction is strong, sealed and quiet, with proper HEPA filtration that keeps fine dust and allergens locked in rather than leaking from the exhaust — a real strength for allergy households. On carpet and hard floors it cleans thoroughly. What it lacks is Dyson’s party trick: there’s no laser to reveal fine dust and no particle counter, so you’re cleaning by eye rather than by numbers.

Battery Life

The battery is swappable, and higher trims of the Triflex include a second pack — the sensible way to buy it if runtime matters, since two batteries comfortably cover a whole house. Expect around an hour of real cleaning per charge in normal mode. Our battery life guide covers how to keep packs healthy.

Maintenance

The bin and filter are straightforward to service, and Miele’s parts-and-support network is a genuine long-term advantage — this is a vacuum you repair rather than replace. Keep to the filter-washing routine in our maintenance guide.

Verdict

Buy the Miele Triflex HX2 if you value how a thing is made and how flexibly it works over sensors and gadgets. It’s heavier and pricier than the Dyson and Shark alternatives, and it skips their tech, but the modular design solves real ergonomic problems and the build should still be going strong long after cheaper sticks have been binned. What We Liked

  • Modular body: move the motor unit low for balance or high for reach
  • Genuinely excellent build quality that feels made to last
  • Swappable battery, and higher trims ship with two
  • Strong, quiet suction with proper HEPA sealing

What Could Be Better

  • Heavier than most sticks, especially in handheld mode
  • Premium price, and the best config costs more again
  • No laser or particle sensor like Dyson's Detect models
